      Like A Rock

      Driving south along the Pacific coast toward San Diego, we stopped every few miles to get a closer look. At one spot, a few die-hards braved the early November surf. At another point, gulls and terns darted in and out of the breaking waves, searching for an evening meal. At most locations, large rock formations dotted the shoreline. I was reminded of a popular truck commercial that uses the slogan, Like a Rock!

      Each of these formations stands as a testament of endurance. Day after day, 24/7/365, the wind and waves never let up. Still they remain, taking everything that comes against them. The sand around them shifts and changes with each incoming wave, yet the rocks stand firm. They are not invulnerable to what is going on. They will be affected. Rough edges are worn smooth. Old shapes will be transformed into new forms. But they hold on.

      Stressed Out

      Adversity and pressure seem to be the norm in life today. We don't always feel Like a Rock. The stress seems to be more than we can take. Ultimately, we don't have to be Like a Rock if we are standing on The Rock. Learn more.

      The rain came down,
      the streams rose,
      and the winds blew
      and beat against that house;
      yet it did not fall, because
      it had its foundation on the rock.
