Called to Bless
The idea, Blessed to Bless, comes from God's call of
in the
.
The first eleven chapters of Genesis set the stage for this turning point event in chapter twelve.
In fact, the call of Abraham sets the stage for the rest of the Scriptures. The thread that runs
through the entire Bible and through all of history is God's call to Abram and his
to be of God's resources in order to
accomplish a specific .
More Than Being Blessed
As Christians, we are quick to claim this same blessing that God promised to Abraham in verse two.
But too many times we choose to ignore the responsibility of verse three. While it is true that
God wants to bless us, there is much more to His promise. He did not promise to bless Abraham
and does not promise to bless us just because we are "special" or because we have done something
to deserve His blessings. His motivation runs much deeper. He wants to bring glory to His name.
God is relentlessly seeking to draw all the peoples of the world to Himself. He has chosen to
do that by blessing those of us who choose to follow Him; and in return, He expects us to use
those blessings to bless those He places in our lives.
The
to Abram, "Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go
to the land I will show you. "I will make you into a great nation and I will bless
you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will
bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on
earth will be blessed through you."
Use Your Blessing
It is my prayer that if you haven't already made the choice to commit your life to following God
by believing in His son, Jesus Christ, that you will consider that option today. I pray also that
God will continue to richly bless you and that you will choose to use your blessings to bless those
He places in your life.

It's Your Choice
By the way, if you have never made a decision to commit your life to following God by accepting
Jesus as Lord of your life, you can begin the relationship simply by admitting you need God's help,
honestly opening your heart, and saying a prayer similar to:
Jesus:
I have made many mistakes in my life and have done things I am not proud of. I admit that I am
a sinner. I want your love and your forgiveness. I believe that you died on a cross to pay for my sins.
I believe that you defeated death by rising from the dead. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life.
Jesus, I give my life to you.
Amen
If you prayed this prayer for the first time, e-mail
me so that I can rejoice with you. Or, if you still have questions about what I have said, I'll be glad to
talk to you about why I believe a personal relationship with Jesus is so important.
