Hey! Taxi
Although I have never had the opportunity to travel by taxi, I have
heard the ride can be quite exciting. Like the story I read about a
lady who was in a hurry to get to a meeting in uptown New York
City. She rushed to the curb, hailed a cab, got in, and quickly gave
the cabbie the address. The cabbie turned out to be a lunatic driver,
and she sat in the backseat clutching the door handle wondering
if she could expect to arrive in one piece. Despite her cries of
concern, the cabdriver continued to speed through the crowded
streets, weaving in and out of traffic. She watched as one
pedestrian after another leapt aside to avoid being run down by this
crazy driver. Suddenly, just ahead, she saw a truck double-parked
on the narrow street. Not only did the driver fail to slow down, he
actually accelerated as he approached. He slipped his cab through
the narrow space with only an inch or two to spare on either side.
"Driver," the lady screamed, "Are you crazy? Are you trying to get
us both killed?" "Relax, Lady," he said. "Just do what I do.
Close your eyes."
Out of Control
Sometimes life can seem out of control. We just want to close our
eyes and hope we can squeeze through the tight places. But it takes
more than just closing our eyes and wishing for the best. It takes
faith. The author of the Bible book of
defines faith as the
substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Our faith has to be more than just in
ourselves or in a crazy driver with his eyes closed. It must be
in the one who sees the things not seen, in the one who knows
the road ahead.
Do you feel like you're on a wild taxi ride with the crazy driver? Is
everything whizzing by out of control and no one seems to know
what's going on? It is possible to find out where you are going
and what your purpose is along the way.
