      Beware of Dog

A stranger approached a little country store and noticed a sign posted on the screen door, Danger! Beware of Dog. Inside, he observed a harmless old hound dog asleep on the floor next to the cash register.

image of Sleeping Hound Dog He asked the store owner, "Is that the dog folks are supposed to watch out for?"

      "Yep, that's him," he replied.

The stranger chuckled out loud and said, "He certainly doesn't look very dangerous to me. Why in the world would you post that sign?"

"Because," the owner explained, "before I posted that sign, people kept trippin' over him."

      Sleeping Dogs Ahead

I've come across a few dogs like that. Unfortunately, our dogs don't fit into that mold. They're certainly not dangerous; but they are far from unnoticeable - especially at night. Any little noise or disturbance within half a mile and they feel obligated to alert the entire neighborhood. Our cat, on the other hand, has mastered the art of stealthiness. She can lie undetected in the middle of the living room floor and place her tail in the exact spot that my foot will land.

Those old sleeping hound dogs have a way of sneaking into life. They don't look that dangerous, but if we aren't careful, we'll keep tripping over them. They answer to many names - anger, doubt, fear, grief, guilt, loneliness, stress, suffering, and more. Fortunately, warning signs have been posted. Learn more
