      Garage Sale Ahead

A lady was browsing through everything at a garage sale and said, "My husband is going to be really mad when he finds out I stopped at a garage sale." Another shopper replied, "I'm sure he'll understand when you tell him about all the bargains you've found." "Normally, yes," the lady said. "But he just broke his leg, and he's waiting for me to take him to the hospital to have it set."

I can identify with this lady. Brenda and I love to look for bargains at garage sales and we have a whole house-full of goodies to prove it. We probably should get one of those "I Brake for Garage Sales" stickers for the car. Having spent the last couple of weeks helping friends get ready for a big garage/moving sale, I can tell you that buying is a lot more fun than selling.

      Lessons Learned

Here are a few things I have learned from avid garage-salers:

One man's trash really is another man's treasure. The opposite is also true.

The early birds get the good stuff. Some will even knock on your door at five in the morning to be sure they get it first.

For some it's a hobby - - for others, it's a mission. It's best to stand back when those on a mission are approaching.

Nothing goes out of style. The things that have been boxed up for years are just the items the college students are looking for to furnish their new apartments or dorm rooms.

Every object has its story. Some are better left untold; but others are worth remembering.

Advertise and they will come. Sometimes all you need to do is open the garage door.

Presentation is everything. With the right spin, trash miraculously transforms into prime merchandise.

It's ok to offer a lower price. But I've never heard anyone offer a higher price.

The value of an object is directly proportional to the interest of the garage-saler standing next to you.

Nearly anything can be purchased for a meager amount if one is only willing to spend the time and energy required to locate it.

      A Good Deal

Just like garage-salers, everyone is looking for a good deal. The best deal I have found was bought for a great price but is absolutely free to anyone who wants it. It has been called the pearl of great price and a treasure worth selling everything to obtain. Learn more
