      Do Not Harden Your Heart

Recently, we were involved in a study of the Bible book of Hebrews. In chapter 3, verses 9-10, the writer says, "So, as the Holy Spirit says: 'Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the desert, where your fathers tested and tried me and for forty years saw what I did. That is why I was angry with that generation, and I said, Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known my ways.'"

      No Idea What's Going On

The thought that came to me from these verses was that "for forty years (they) saw what I did" and "they have not known my ways". In other words, the children of Israel had seen God working in their lives for 40 years, yet they had no idea what He was trying to do. God had chosen the Israelites to show his love thru them to the other peoples of the world. They had mistakenly thought that being "favored" of God meant that they were His "favorite" people. They lost sight of being a blessing to others and chose to concentrate on their own lives instead.

      Know His Ways

How long has God been at work in your life? Do you know His ways? What is he trying to accomplish thru you? Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your heart. See what God is doing in your life. Know His ways. See how He would use you to extend His love to those around you.
