      Been There, Done That

I read a story this week about a couple that was on vacation and had stopped for lunch at a roadside café. After finishing their meal, they continued on their trip. Several miles down the road, the woman suddenly remembered that she had left her glasses lying on the table at the restaurant. The man had to drive even farther down the road before he could find a place to turn around. He fussed and fumed all the way back, complaining about the time lost and that they would never be able to get back on schedule. Finally, they arrived at the restaurant and the woman hurried out of the car to recover her glasses. The man was still complaining, but stopped long enough to yell out to her, "While you're in there, you might as well get my hat, too."

Although I do wear a hat, this story is not based on personal experience. But I must confess, "Been there, done that!" Come on now, be honest, you can identify with this man, too. Ok, maybe a few of you have only been in the passenger seat. The thing is it's easy to see the flaws in others while overlooking the same shortcomings in our own life. What's even more frightening is to see your own imperfections coming back at you from your 12-year-old.

      Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

A great man once said, "It's easy to see a smudge on your neighbor's face and be oblivious to the ugly sneer on your own." I have to admit that I still struggle here. I would prefer going through life fixing others rather than focusing on the reflection looking back at me. But I know that I must first wash my own face to be fit to offer a washcloth to someone else. I also know that I don't have to depend on my own strength and resources. The infinite God who created the universe is certainly creative and wise enough to deal with my needs. Learn more.
