What's the Problem
Did you hear about the guy whose skills with do-it-yourself home
repairs were somewhat lacking? He spent several evenings trying
to fix a leak in the bathroom with no success. He finally gave up
and called a plumber, who finished the job in ten minutes.
Watching the plumber put away his equipment, the man's son
asked what had been the problem.
"Well," the plumber replied, "seems that your dad got hold
of some tools."
In Control
From time to time, most of us have the attitude of a 12-year-old,
"I know everything and I can do it myself!" Asking for help or
admitting a lack of knowledge is usually the last thing we want
to do. Men are notorious for never asking for directions or only
looking at the owner's manual when all else fails. I suspect that
women aren't completely innocent either. We all want to give the
appearance of being in control - to look like we know what we're doing.
The truth is we all need help more often then not. It's true, "No man
(or woman) is an island." We need each other. It's not a sign of
weakness to ask for help. It is the truly wise person who admits
he still has something to learn.
Help! I Need Somebody
Do you remember, Help, the song and movie by The Beatles?
The lyrics of the first verse and chorus are:
Help, I need somebody,
Help, not just anybody,
Help, you know I need someone, help.
When I was younger, so much younger than today,
I never needed anybody's help in any way.
But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured,
Now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors.
Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being round.
Help me, get my feet back on the ground,
Won't you please, please help me?
There is one area of life that we cannot take care of by ourselves.
We must cry, "Help, I need somebody!" We must look to someone
else who has the solution and knows what to do. Learn more
