Thanks, but No Thanks
I heard a story about an attorney who handled a difficult law case
for a wealthy friend. He won the case and the friend called on the
lawyer to express his appreciation. He thanked the lawyer and
handed him a handcrafted Moroccan leather wallet.
The lawyer looked at the wallet in astonishment. He handed it back
declaring that a wallet could not possibly compensate him for his
services. "My fee is five hundred dollars," snapped the attorney.
The client opened the wallet, removed a one thousand dollar bill,
replaced it with a five hundred dollar bill, smiled, and handed it
back to the lawyer.
What We Deserve
Have you ever been in the client's shoes? You try to do the right
thing, only to be told off. Or perhaps you can identify with the
lawyer. You feel like you aren't appreciated. You're not getting
everything you deserve.
Often, we aren't appreciated and we do deserve better. But
sometimes it is better if we don't get what's coming to us. In the
,
Paul writes about just such a situation. And it involves all of us.
He says that because of our disobedience to God we deserve to die -
to be separated from God. But God decided to give us more than we
deserved. He offers each of us a gift - life with God forever.
