Bet You Can't
Two buddies were golfing one afternoon and were getting a little
bored. When they came to a water hazard with two ducks sitting
quietly on the water, one golfer bet the other ten dollars that he
couldn't hit either duck and five dollars that he couldn't even get
one to move. Naturally, being a guy, he took the bet. He calculated
the distance and drove four tee shots toward the ducks. He even
threw two by hand. But the ducks still wouldn't budge. Only after
he lost six golf balls did he realize the ducks were decoys.

Pride - it's a guy thing and it can be a good incentive to a job well
done. But it can also bring a heap of trouble. The words, "I dare
you. I double-dog dare you!" have placed many young boys and
even older men in precarious, even life-threatening situations.
This kind of pride manifests itself in statements like, "My dad's
stronger than your dad." or "My car's faster than yours!" or
"I don't need to stop for directions."
Often pride races ahead, leaving wisdom trailing behind. An epochal
writer contrasts pride and wisdom,

claimed that no one could reach God without coming to him first.
2000 years later, his followers continue to state the same thing. Why
do Christians say that Jesus is the only way to God?
