      Scorpions Rule

image of Marine You may have missed the story in today's news about a small skirmish in central Iraq. The battle had the potential of sure victory for one side and utter destruction of the other. It all began when First Sergeant Mike Barnhill discovered a hidden intruder in his gear. With the help of a fellow sergeant, the trespasser was soon under house arrest. A scorpion about the size of Barnhill's palm had been successfully apprehended and placed in a nearby bucket.

Word quickly spread through Delta Company of the 7th Engineering Support Battalion. It was determined that a fight was in order. But first a worthy opponent must be found. The marines began an area search, at last finding what might be a formidable adversary - a large beetle the size of a silver dollar. image of Scorpion

About thirty marines gathered around as someone cried out, "Hoo-yah!" Small wagers were made and the beetle was dropped into the bucket with the scorpion. Someone yelled, "The beetle is going down." A reply echoed back, "Scorpions rule!"

The battle quickly ended, but with a surprising outcome. Instead of a fierce fight with the beetle falling victim to the scorpion's venomous sting - the two bugs simply crawled around, occasionally bumping into each other, but for the most part ignoring each other's presence.

One means danger; the other, opportunity. How right they are! In every crisis there is a danger of being defeated or the opportunity for growth. The question is: How can we turn crises and suffering into opportunities? Learn more
