Recently I discovered a great moral that I'd like to share with you. Here's how it happened. My husband Jim, son Matt, (who by the way, just turned 28, I know you are thinking I look way too young for a child that old . . .) anyway, we all went on a cruise. The excitement of starting a long awaited vacation combined with a fabulous dinner and the crisp sea air quickly exhausted Jim and me. By 10:00 p.m. we decided we couldn't have any more fun so we went to bed. Not so for our more energetic offspring.

Several hours later when Matt finally returned to the cabin to go to bed, Jim and I were fast asleep, so being the considerate child that he is, Matt changed clothes in the dark and crawled in his bed. Some time in the night he woke up because he felt something stuck to his back. He reached over and pulled off a used band-aid.

image of Band-Aid Immediately he got mad. He thought how awful it was to sleep in a bed that had obviously not been cleaned.

As he was holding the offensive object in his hand on his way to dispose of it, he began to realize it was squishy. Now he was not only mad, he was getting sick to his stomach. "Somebody was really going to get it," he thought, "This was absolutely outrageous." By this time, he had gotten to the bathroom where he was able to turn on a light to find a container for the disgusting evidence. Then he just needed to wash his hands after which he would storm down to the Pursers Office and demand satisfaction. Heads were going to roll!

As he opened his now sticky hand, instead of a gross band-aid, he found a melted chocolate mint that had been carefully left on his pillow by the room steward.

He laughed so long and hard that he woke both Jim and me. After we all finished having a good laugh and of course making fun of Matt, we went back to bed.

Hence, my great moral discovery. And that is, "Sometimes when we are mad and upset, all we really need to make things better is a little bit of chocolate."
